What do you define as a "good" song?
So, for me and me alone:
a song that is:
- simple
- clear
- emotion barely restrained
- restrained
- courageous in some way
- "Saudade"
- not longer than it needs to be
- not shorter than it needs to be
- fascinating structurally
- memorable lyrics
- sincere in some way (i.e. sincerely foolish, sincerely honest, etc.)
- smart lyrics
- lyrics that are not cute or trite
- an elevation of the mundane
- not more complex than they need to be
- original in some way
- surprises (unexpected meaning, music change, lyrics, etc.)
I think these qualities describe many famous songs.
